Baltimore/Washington, Nashville, Houston Hobby and Orlando Can Now Fly to THE Beach – Northwest Florida Beaches with Southwest Airlines
Southwest Airlines announced today its U.S. gateways with nonstop service to Northwest Florida’s Gulf Coast, beginning May 23, 2010
THE BEACH, Fla. (December 17, 2009) – Southwest Airlines, the nation’s leading low-fare carrier, announced today its new flight schedule with service to THE Beach along Northwest Florida’s Gulf Coast. Beginning May 23, 2010, Baltimore/Washington, Nashville, Houston Hobby and Orlando will have access to and from Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport near Panama City Beach, Fla., and in turn, to the region’s sugar-white sands and blue-green waters.
THE Beach was recently named as one of the top 12 destinations to visit in 2010 by Frommer’s, the market leader in travel guides. While the region has long been a popular drive destination among those living in the Southeast, it has remained relatively off the radar of the rest of the country, but that’s certainly expected to change in light of Southwest’s announcement.
“We’re so excited to welcome visitors from all over the U.S. to our region and show them what has made Northwest Florida’s Gulf Coast one of the country’s best-kept secrets,” said Mel Ponder, executive director of Coastal Vision 3000, the non-profit organization that promotes awareness of the Northwest Florida beach region. “What better way to head down to THE Beach than with Southwest Airlines?”
Spanning seven counties and more than 220 miles from Perdido Key to Carrabelle, THE Beach’s greatest asset is its stunning natural beauty. In addition to the beach and nature trails, art galleries, museums, aquatic parks, eclectic boutiques and rich historic districts offer countless entertainment choices. Sophisticated restaurants and funky oyster shacks alike serve up the freshest catch from the Gulf year-round. When the beach weather cools down in the fall and winter, towns along THE Beach come alive with festivals aimed at celebrating everything from seafood and wine to art and culture. With more than one million acres of land protected and maintained by national, state and local parks and preserves, THE Beach is expected to become one of the leading eco-tourism destinations in the country.
“I truly believe we’ve got something for everyone here at THE Beach,” said Ponder. “Beginning in May 2010, more people will be able to enjoy all of the spectacular things our region has to offer.”
Introductory one-way fares from $49 & $69 are being offered through December 18, 2009 only on www.southwest.com.
